Chelsea signed Ben Chilwell in the summer from Leicester City for £50m as the Blues splashed cash to bring in the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech. Chilwell, who made 123 appearances across all competitions for Leicester City was identified as the primary target for Lampard after Marcos Alonso and Emerson had a very poor season. The England international has already scored two goals and provided two assists in the Premier League after returning from a foot injury.
Chilwell believes Chelsea can win a lot of silverware with the assembled squad. Speaking to Chelsea’s official website the England international said “I feel like I needed a new challenge in my career. Chelsea are one of the biggest teams in Europe, and with the players that were brought in, I was eager at 23 years old to come and try help this team win trophies. Talking to a lot of the other boys that have come in, they are saying the same. If you look at the way we’ve been playing the last month, if we keep working hard, then over the next year, two, three, four, five years, we can win a lot of silverware.
The manager and the coaching staff are always telling me to get in at the back post and get up there and score more goals and get more assists. I can’t be happy just to put crosses in, but want to score and get more assists. I have tried to add that to my game this season.”
