Pep Guardiola bemoans Manchester City’s lack of scoring goals

Manchester City have endured a tough start to the Premier League season as they currently sit 12th in the table with 3 wins and 3 draws. Manchester City, who lost Aguero due to a hamstring injury have struggled to score goals this season and the its impact was on display against the defeat to Tottenham.

Manchester City, who had the highest goal difference last season (67) now have a negative goal difference, and Pep admitted his team needs to score more goals in order to be in touching distance with the table toppers. Speaking after the defeat to Tottenham the Manchester City manager said “Tottenham are top of the league so obviously they are more contenders than anyone else right now. There is a lot of points to play for, we are eight points down with one game in hand. But there are lot of teams in front of us. We have to start winning or winning the league will not be possible. We have to try and win games. We are not far, far away but we struggle to score goals. Ten goals in eight games isn’t good enough.

The perfect scenario for Spurs, we concede a goal after five minutes, we knew Kane would drop, Bergwijn and Son run in behind, we could have done better. After that they defend so deep, two shots on target, and we know how difficult it is on physicality when they defend so deep. We tried to find some solutions but could not do it. I don’t have the feeling that we are playing bad, we come here, we have more shots on target, concede less shots on target, we have more possession, but football is about detail in the boxes. I know Mourinho’s team always wait for you to make a mistake to punish you.”
