Frank Lampard confirmed Hakim Ziyech will miss Chelsea’s clash against Arsenal after failing to recover from a muscular injury suffered against Leeds earlier this month. The Blues returned to winning ways against West Ham after two successive defeats, and Lampard will be hoping to continue the winning run against Mikel Arteta’s struggling Arsenal.
Speaking to reporters ahead of their game, Frank Lampard confirmed Ziyech will miss the trip to Arsenal, but insisted there are no long-term concerns around the midfielder’s fitness. The Chelsea manager added “He had an injury with his knee at the start of the season and he’s just got another muscle injury so you have to wait for it to recover.“
“We hope to have him back within the next week or so and hopefully offer what he was offering before because he was offering great things and you miss that when it’s taken away. But that’s football, that’s what happens when players are playing at a really high level every two or three days.“
Chelsea’s injury worries deepened after Ben Chilwell suffered an injury against West Ham, and Lampard said the England international along with Reece James could miss the games against Arsenal and Aston Villa. “They’re both doubtful so I can’t give you an answer at the moment. We’re not sure whether they will be fit for either game. “
Speaking on the derby game, Lampard said he is not concerned about Arsenal’s position in the table, and suggested the derby could motivate Gunners to try and get a result. Lampard added “I don’t want to talk about what their battle is. They are a good team with a good manager. They have had some tough results recently. The general wave for every team in the Premier League this season has been more inconsistent than usual. It’s not my concern exactly where they are at. My concern is the team at face value in terms of quality, and they are a high-quality team.”
“Sometimes the idea of playing a derby is the spur the team needs to try and get a result. We have to expect the best Arsenal which is a really good footballing team with really good players, well coached with rotations in their team and threats in attacking areas.“
