Budweiser sends beer to goalkeepers after Messi breaks record

Lionel Messi’s goal against Valladolid on Tuesday night saw him break Pele’s long standing record for scoring most goals for a single club. The Barcelona captain scored his 644th goal for the club against goalkeeper Jordi Masip, a former teammate of Messi at Barcelona.

Budweiser has taken the opportunity to celebrate the record breaking feat by sending beers to 160 goalkeepers Messi has overcome, one beer for every goal scored, with each bottle having the a number in front of the bottle.

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was pictured with two bottles, numbered 514 and 515, for the goals Messi scored against him in the Champions League in 2017. The Italian goalkeeper congratulated Messi for his achievement and posted “@budfootball… thanks for the beers. I’ll take it as a compliment. We have great battles over the years! Congratulations on breaking the 644 record #Messi! it really is an unbelievable achievement. Cheers!

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper posted a picture of him with the beers and congratulated Messi for his record breaking goal.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was pictured with the bottles after conceding goals during his time at Athletic Bilbao.
