The Serbian, who joined Manchester United in 2017 for a fee of 40£m from Chelsea signed a 3 year extension earlier this year to extend his stay at Old Trafford until 2023. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has preferred the midfielder over Pogba in recent times to provide more defensive stability to United, and allow players like Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek play more forward.
Having won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, the Serbian feels winning the title with Manchester United would be on par with the success he achieved with the Blues. Speaking to Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti, Matic said “It would certainly amount to making another dream a reality after winning two titles at Chelsea. If we enjoyed a slice of good fortune and clinched the Premier League title, it’d be on par with what I accomplished at Chelsea. I am in good shape and hope to carry on playing at the top level for another four or five years.“
Matic said he misses the football fans at Old Trafford and that the Premier League matches without them are similar to training sessions. The midfielder added “It’s come down to having games which all look like carbon copies of each other resembling training sessions with no fans in the stadiums. The coronavirus pandemic has made the circumstances much different and I am sure that Liverpool would never have lost to Aston Villa 7-2 if fans had been present.”
“Football has survived, the league is in motion but I sorely miss the noise and the reaction from the terraces.”
