After a great start to the Premier League campaign, Chelsea were considered as one of the title contenders this season. However, the Blues have lost four of their last six matches to drop down to 8th position in the table.
Chelsea were thrashed by a depleted Manchester City on Sunday to pile more pressure on Frank Lampard. The Blues put in an abysmal performance against Pep Guardiola’s men to concede three goals inside the first 35 minutes of the game. Chelsea were clueless for most parts of the game, and were left to chase shadows by City’s energetic play.
Thiago Silva, who dramatically improved Chelsea’s defence since his summer arrival admitted he was puzzled by their poor run of results. Speaking after the defeat to RMC Sport, the Chelsea defender said “No, I don’t understand what’s wrong. If I understood before, I think I could have given some advice, but that’s how it is.”
“It’s football, it’s the Premier League: one of the toughest championships in the the world. You have to be careful, work harder, be stronger as a team, but I think the team is good and the second half was much better than the first in my opinion.”
“We tried to play a little more, we managed to play. I think we were superior in possession of the ball in the second half. Sometimes it does not work as we want or as we have prepared but that’s how football is sometimes. We must prepare for the next match when it arrives.”
