The Portuguese, who signed for Manchester City in the summer from Benfica for £64m has been a mainstay for Pep Guardiola’s side. Dias has started 22 matches for City in all competitions this season.
The 23-year old has transformed City’s defence as they start to push forward with their title aspirations. Dias put in a man-of-the-match performance in the EFL Cup semi-final to knock Manchester United out and book a place in the final against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.
Having played most of the matches in the busy fixture schedule, there is a concern if Dias’s performances could be impacted due to burnout. However, Guardiola is not concerned by it, and said he was amazed with the recovery of his defender since his arrival at City.
Speaking to City’s official website, Pep Guardiola said “The player who influences the team and is important in the team is the player who can play every three days. The quality is there, but if a player gets injured every few weeks, that is not good for the team.”
“When you buy players you know their quality but don’t know if they can play every three days, but he recovers immediately. His ability is incredible. He wants to learn. All of us are impressed with how he takes care of his body and his mind.”
“The day after a game he is in the gym at 8:30 in the morning. He lives his profession 24-hours a day. I can assure you we have signed an incredible player for the next years. And it is not easy to find that.“
“That’s why we are so fortunate. Hopefully, he can continue at this level.”
