Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah completed his permanent transfer to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday. The deal is estimated to be worth around 1.8£m, and the 23-year-old signed a three year contract at the Bay Arena.
The defender, who managed just nine appearances across all competitions in his last two seasons with United was keen on a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford. Having joined from Ajax in 2014, there were high expectations from the youngster, but his progress was hampered by limited opportunities under various managers.
Pogba and Bailly, who were close friends with Fosu-Mensah at United were disappointed to see the defender leave, but wished him the best at Bayer Leverkusen. In a video uploaded to Fosu-Mensah’s snapchat, Pogba said “My brother from another mother! Look at the video, this is memories! Catch the moment. Blessings to you, bro. You know what, I don’t watch a lot of Germany but now I put this on straight! We pray for you, we’re gonna miss you too much! Who’s gonna make me laugh? Him?! This day, we will remember this.”
The defender revealed that talks with Bayer Leverkusen chiefs convinced him to join the Bundesliga outfit. The Dutchman added “In the last few days I’ve talked a lot with the coach, and conversations with Simon Rolfes and Rudi Voller have convinced me that there are great prospects in Leverkusen.”
“Both for me personally and for us as a team. That will be really exciting.”
