Salah says game against United is ‘special’

Defending champions Liverpool host the table toppers Manchester United on Sunday in one of the most anticipated matches of the season. Having picked up just 2 points from their last three games, Liverpool are three points behind Manchester United in the table.

The game against Manchester United has always been a standout fixture every season, but Mohamed Salah believes it’s a bit more special this time around due to the position in the table. Speaking ahead of the game to TV 2, the Liverpool forward said “The game is really big at the moment, especially because now they are first and we are second.

They are playing well this season as well. It’s a good game but at the end of the day we need to win that game, I think that’s the most important thing.”

I always say it’s just one game, it’s only one game. But because this one, if they win they are going to be six points and if you win you’re going to be the same, it’s a little bit special this game.”

It’s always different. The last two years I’ve always said it’s one game and that’s it, it’s three points. But this game now, because they are first and you have to be close to them and beat them to be first as well, it’s a little bit special.

On Liverpool’s recent form

Salah acknowledged Liverpool have not been at their best in the recent games, but insisted the team is focussed on retaining the Premier League. The Egyptian added “Around the training ground you feel how the players are focused on the game, how the players are pushing each other to win games.”

We also lost a couple of points in the last couple of games, so we need to come back to our way and we need to stay on track to win games so we can keep fighting for the Premier League.”

On personal form

The Liverpool forward leads the race for Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 13 times this season. On asked about his personal form, Salah said “I’m happy when the team wins, that’s the most important thing.”

When I’m scoring goals and can help the team, that makes me more happy. When I don’t score and the team doesn’t win, that’s a nightmare!

But I’m happy when we are first, I’m happy when I score goals to help the team because the team comes first before anything and before anyone.”
