Manchester City vice-captain Kevin De Bruyne is expected to be sidelined for three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in their win against Aston Villa on Wednesday. The Belgian has been instrumental in City’s resurgence to move second in the table, two points behind leaders Manchester United, with a game in hand.
Pep Guardiola’s men face West Brom, Sheffield United and Burnely in the Premier League ahead of their trip to Anfield to take on reigning champions Liverpool on February 7th. The injury to De Bruyne will be a big blow to City in their bid to challenge for the title after losing it to Liverpool last year.
The Belgian recently completed 100 assists for City, and has provided the most number of assists this season in the Premier League. The creative midfielder was also used as a striker by Guardiola in Aguero’s absence in their recent games.
De Bruyne’s injury compounded City’s woes after Aguero tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday. The Argentinian had been self-isolating since coming in close contact with an infected friend, and confirmed the positive test result yesterday.
