Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham returned to winning ways after consecutive league defeats by brushing aside West Brom 2-0. Tottenham’s dynamic duo – Kane and Son, were on the scoresheet, as the Baggies struggled to contain an energetic Spurs side.
Harry Kane, who was expected to be sidelined for a few weeks after injuring both his ankles, returned to action and helped Spurs avoid their third consecutive defeat in the league. The England international’s goal was his 208th for the club, which made him the joint-highest top scorer for Spurs, level with Bobby Smith.
Speaking after the win against West Brom, Mourinho admitted he wanted to praise his team’s performance, but couldn’t help to single out Harry Kane for this man-of-the-match performance.
The Spurs manager added “He is one of the best strikers in the world. period. There is nothing else yo say and the team depends a lot on him, I cannot hide that. It’s the goal he can score, it’s the assist he can make, he’s the link player that he is.”
“He has that personality that the top players have and he’s always a very important influence for us.”
“Today I was promising that i was not going to speak about individuals because I was so happy with the compromise of the players, I was so happy with what they did as a team and their compromise to win the game and to close this negative series after three defeats.”
“But your question is very hard to run away from, it’s hard to run away from the fact that he is a very important player.”
Mourinho praised his players for their performance after the derby defeat against Chelsea on Thursday, and added “I’m not used to losing three matches in a row and Tottenham is the same, so we have to admit that it was not a week where we felt very very comfortable, but I was very positive because what the players showed in this game, I knew that they would.”
“I think we played very well but I’m speaking about the mentality the players brought to the game.”
“The players are together, the players want to win, they are committed and today they went to the pitch only with one thing in their mind and that was to win the game. This was the things that pleases me more, the way the players approached it.”
