Guardiola claims Arsenal are future Premier League contenders

Table toppers Manchester City will try to continue their impressive run in the league when they visit Arsenal on Sunday. Guardiola’s men have a ten point advantage at the top of the table, and a win against the Gunners will further cement their hopes of winning the title after losing it to Liverpool last season.

After having a poor start to the season, Arsenal are currently 10th in the table, and a defeat against City would dent their hopes of securing a European spot for next season.

On Arsenal’s future

Speaking ahead of their game against Arsenal, Pep Guardiola said Arsenal are definitely contenders for winning Premier League in the future under Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard added “I did not inspire him. What he knows he knows for himself. I am not any influence. What he is doing, all credit to him and his backroom staff.”

All I can say is the last months show me that all managers need time and he is not an exception. What I see in the last two months every game Arsenal played is better than the opponent.”

Tomorrow we will have an incredible performance. They have an exceptional build-up, they have quality and they have energy. They have Saka, Aubameyang and all the players with the quality in the middle.”

In the early future, they will be real contenders to fight for the titles. Most of the time we took decisions together and I took decisions with the influence of Mikel. I don’t know if I influenced him – he has to answer this.

On injuries

Pep Guardiola confirmed they would make a late call on Gundogan, who missed their win against Everton with a minor groin strain. The City manager added “Nathan is back in training, on the pitch, alone still. Gundo took part in a training session today, we will see how he feels tomorrow. The rest are fit.
