Arteta worried after West Ham draw

Mikel Arteta admitted he was worried about Arsenal’s performances after the Gunners staged a spectacular comeback from 3 goals down to rescue a point against West Ham at the London Stadium.

West Ham displayed their top four credentials by scoring three goals in the first 35 minutes of the game. However, own goals from Soucek and Dawson and Lacazette’s equaliser in the 82nd minute ensured the points were shared.

Speaking after the game, Arteta jokingly admitted that he would have nightmares after seeing Arsenal’s performances. The Arsenal manager added “This game is going to give me a few nightmares because it is really difficult to stop some of the things we have been doing to hurt ourselves.”

I’m very disappointed because I cannot accept my team playing the way we did for certain periods in the first half. What I expect is for the team to play to the level we showed afterwards – we should have scored six or seven.”

We have two faces. The first face is about giving goals to the opponent and not doing what we have to do and it is not good enough. That keeps me awake.”

The first goal can happen – there are good combinations and players in the box and it can happen but the second goal was unacceptable and the third goal was unacceptable. Then we give them one more and they hit the post.”

But for the rest – the attitude and desire, the togetherness we showed – when it is 3-0 it is difficult to do what we have to do, but I have no doubts because every day I see the energy.

I am worried by the levels we can show within a game.”

Arteta praised Martin Odegaard for another excellent performance, as the loanee was instrumental in Arsenal’s attacks. The Spaniard added “He has shown from week one with the way he stepped on the pitch and wants the ball that he has been really influential. I have been surprised because he looks shy and humble but on that pitch he is a real character.
