Thomas Tuchel urges his players to keep their focus

Chelsea head into a crucial week of their season yet as they face FC Porto in the second leg of Champions League quarterfinal, followed by a FA Cup semifinal clash against Manchester City on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel has urged his team to keep their focus as they compete in two competitions during the business end of the season. Speaking to reporters ahead of their Champions League second leg against FC Porto, Thomas Tuchel said “Well if you want to finish the season with a trophy we’d better win both matches, otherwise could be difficult.”

Everybody can wreck their heads about it, but we are there to play football, and this is the target, and this is the challenge actually – to keep focus.

It doesn’t help to reflect too much about it, we have to play these games but it’s most important for me to be fully focused on what we do, and forget that we have already a result, and forget what we did at Crystal Palace because it’s the past.”

There’s nothing less interesting in football than the past. Everything that counts in football is the next match, the next competition. So full focus on tomorrow, we can be absolutely self-confident, because we have a strong squad, the squad can rely always on their work-rate, their intensity, we are always a tough team to play against.

And so the fight is on for tomorrow. We must take the chances that are there. We play in three competitions and hopefully we’ll still be in three competitions. Tomorrow there’s no trophy to win, on Saturday there’s no trophy to win, but of course these are matches where we can take decisive steps, we are well aware.”
