Solskjaer credits Man United’s form to improved fitness levels

Manchester United continued their impressive form to notch a 3-1 win against Burnley to reduce the gap with Manchester City to 8 points. With just 6 games to go in the season, United’s win has put considerable pressure on City, who are still reeling from their FA Cup semifinal defeat to Chelsea.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer credited his team’s success to their improved fitness levels. The Norwegian added “We have improved and we have been better at winning games towards the end of games.”

Our fitness now, with all the games we’ve had, the boys are capable of churning out 90 minutes and the fitter you are the more you can do. I have always said that. The harder you train and the harder you play, the more ready you are.”

That’s the pleasure I get from winning games like this because last season we didn’t have them, but this season we have done that loads and that is down to the training ground and the attitude of the players.”

The match fitness is coming from all the games we have had this season, but I also think the pre-season we had in 2019, two years ago, that was the benchmark.”

That was the signal to the boys that this is how we are going to play, this is how we are going to build you up, the intensity has to improve, the fitness has to improve and if you look at the stats over the last two years, we have really improved on that.”

Solskjaer praised United forward Mason Greenwood, who score continued his scoring run and scored a brace in their win against Burnley. The United manager added “He’s a good goalscorer, we know that. I thought the goal he scored against Tottenham shows that he’s worked on his game because he can go inside or outside and score, so he went outside.”

Today he goes inside and scores. It must be a nightmare to defend against because he can go in or out, and go to his left or right. I’m so happy for him because he has put down a shift on the training ground.
