Guardiola urges his players to control their emotions ahead of PSG game

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola claimed the return leg at Etihad stadium against Paris Saint-Germain will be harder than the first leg. City earned a 2-1 comeback win against PSG last week to take a step closer to qualify for their first ever Champions League final.

Speaking to reporters ahead of their game, Pep Guardiola insisted PSG are still a very dangerous team to get a result against. He added “Same dangerous as first leg, same as Chelsea, Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, other top clubs in Europe.”

We are going to try to make them dangerous. Just focus on what we have to do. We know they can change shape, their manager is clever, can do something we don’t expect. Try to focus on our game, I know the desire to reach the final, never done it before here, so what we do is focus on ourselves.”

Stick together and suffer together, try to impose our game and try to win the game, be patient, attack and try to score goals.”

On asked if it was his biggest game yet with City, Pep said “I don’t know If it’s the most important, first time here together in this club, know what we are playing for but sometimes you don’t need much emotion.”

Be calm and know what you have to do. Don’t have to tell anyone what we’ve lived through for 11 months, not just players, everyone knows how important it is. Stay home tonight, arrive tomorrow calm and go to play the game.”

We spoke today about who we are. We played PSG one week ago, not necessary now so just speak about us, what we have to try to do and try to do it.

The Spaniard insisted City should keep their emotions in check if they were to get a result against PSG. The City manager added “Emotions means you can predict the game but it can be completely different. You are not going to play 90 minutes like we played the second half in Paris.”

That would be a big battle, there are moments to suffer, we are going to react well and impose ourselves. They have to visualise they can do it. It’s not different to what they’ve done in last seven months, go out there and win. Not demanding anything special. We’ve had tough games in the Premier League, same level as PSG, always difficult games so to go there and do what we’ve done this season, stay calm, take the ball and try to regain our momentum and try to win the game.”

I don’t expect for one second we’ll play like that second half in Paris. How quick we play, that’s what will be important. It belongs to the players, something they will remember forever, they have to make a step forward and show you can win the game, they are going to do it.
