Pep Guardiola opens up on Kane and Grealish

Pep Guardiola has admitted Manchester City are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, who hasn’t reported yet to training after the summer break. Having completed the mega money signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, Pep revealed City will try to sign Kane if Tottenham are willing to negotiate.

After submitting a transfer bid for Harry Kane in June, City wasted no time in triggering the release clause for Jack Grealish as they completed the £100m signing of England international yesterday. Speaking to reporters Pep Guardiola revealed City will try to sign Harry Kane. The Spaniard added “He (Kane) is a player for Tottenham Hotspur and if Tottenham don’t want to negotiate, it is finished.”

I think Man City and many clubs in the world want to try to sign him, we are not an exception, but it depends on Tottenham. It is different to Jack. He had the release [clause] and Jack is different. Harry is exceptional and we are interested in him but if Tottenham don’t want to negotiate, nothing more to say.”

With FC Barcelona confirming Lionel Messi will leave the club due to LaLiga regulations, City are considered to be one of the favourites to land the Argentinian due to his previous relationship with Guardiola. Speaking on Messi’s potential move to City, Guardiola said “It looked like it finished well in terms of continuing with Barcelona and in the end, it was a surprise for everyone, me included of course but I think Joan Laporta was clear today the reason why.”

We spent £40million on Jack Grealish. £100million we pay and £60million we won in the last year and he will bring the number 10 because we were convinced for Jack Grealish. Right now it is not in our thoughts [to sign Messi].”

As a fan, I have incredible gratitude for the most extraordinary player I have seen in my life. To win trophies for Barcelona, to help me win and go to Bayern and then on to City. All I can say is thank you so much for bringing Barcelona to another level, to allow Barcelona to dominate the world for a decade with him and his mates.”

I wish him the best for the rest of his career. His contribution helped the club to reach another level.”

Guardiola also confirmed Bernardo Silva and some of the players are looking to leave the club this summer. The City manager said “Not just Bernardo, there are two, three, four players who want to leave but they are our players under contract and when they bring some offers and want to leave, we are open to discuss for absolutely everything with all the players in the squad.”

But it depends on them and otherwise they continue to train and I decide if they play or don’t play.
