Chelsea Head Coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Christian Pulisic will miss Arsenal game after testing positive for Covid-19. However, Hakim Ziyech and Kante might feature for the Blues, while Lukaku could be handed his second Chelsea debut against Arsenal.
Having re-signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan on a club record transfer fee of £97.5m, Chelsea are expected to challenge for the title this season. The Blues started the season with a comfortable win against Crystal Palace at home, and travel away to Arsenal, who lost their opening game to Brentford 0-2.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the game Thomas Tuchel provided updates on injuries and team selection. “Christian has unfortunately had a positive test and needs to follow the protocols. He’s not been training and is not available for the game. Hakim and N’Golo both trained yesterday and had absolutely no problems. So we need to have more physical intense session tomorrow and decide tomorrow. Right now, it seems very positive that both can be in the squad for Sunday.”
On asked about Lukaku’s chances of playing against Arsenal, Tuchel said “We have one more training session to go but the week was a heavy load. He was with the group with the late starters, so it was an overload week so far. Today was low intensity and tomorrow we will have an important session before the match. We hope he will be on the pitch on Sunday and it looks likely.“
The Chelsea Head Coach also praised Trevor Chalobah, who scored his first senior goal in his debut against Crystal Palace. The German added “I think he did a fantastic pre-season with us and he’s a very good player and even more importantly a top character. He has both feet on the ground and he took his chance very impressively.”
“He played very, very good matches in pre-season, he performed 120 minutes against Villarreal and another strong 90 minutes against Crystal Palace. So I think it’s very logical that he stays with us and is looking for his chance here. We let some players go and Trevoh is the guy we absolutely want to keep and this is the status for him.”
“I absolutely don’t know anything about the contract situation I just know that we had a talk yesterday [Thursday] and I think that his situation is he went out for loans, he had the minutes he needed to develop and now is a good moment to stay with us and to be part of the group.”
