Lukaku praises his teammates after Aston Villa win

Romelu Lukaku has praised his teammates after his double helped Chelsea defeat Aston Villa 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. The Belgium international continued his hot goalscoring form by opening the scoring in the 15th minute and finishing it in style in stoppage time.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after the win Lukaku admitted it was his dream to score at Stamford Bridge, a feat he couldn’t achieve during his first engagement with the club. The striker added “It was my dream, since I was 11 I have waited for this moment and worked hard for this moment.”

But I am very happy with the win, it was an important game for us. It was about focus and motivation and we showed the will to win from the first minute so I’m very happy with the result. It was great to score, as I said this was a childhood dream for me and I’m very happy to be in this situation, but I want us to win.”

Speaking on the first goal Lukaku said “It was something that the coach said before the game, he wanted us to play forward as soon as we got the ball. Kova saw my run and it was a brilliant ball and the rest was just instinct.”

It was something the coach was saying before the game, that when we recovered the ball he wanted us to play forward very quickly and Kova, with his quality, I wasn’t doubting him. I made the run, he saw it and it was a brilliant pass, the rest was just instinct.”

I played with Tuanzebe back in the day, he knows I’m left-footed, so I felt like maybe he wouldn’t be expecting it.”

The Belgian also praised Werner for his movements, which allowed him to scored his second in the stoppage time. The Chelsea striker added “I think I have to give a lot of credit for Timo because Timo created a lot of space for me. As soon as he created the space to run in behind the two defenders I had a lot of time, the touch was good and the finish was just clinical.”

Chelsea’s defence was under tremendous pressure at times as Edourad Mendy produced some important saves to keep the clean sheet. Speaking on Chelsea’s defence Lukaku said “The defence is the base of our success because the defence is doing an incredible job. From there we try to build confidence, we know we have a lot of players who can deliver the ball, we have a lot of players who can score a goal.”

Today Edu was brilliant, Thiago, Toni and Trevoh, they were amazing. In training it’s tough to play against them but we push each other very hard and as a team we try to do well every game.”
